Hostelling International
Hostelling International, located near the Chinatown, Shaw and Logan Circle areas in Washington, DC., is where many of the Wikimania scholarship recipients are staying.

Directions
From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
- Metro
- Take the blue line train from the Reagan Washington National Airport metro station in the direction of Largo Town Center.
- Get off at the McPherson Square metro station (8 stops).
- Walk from the metro station (14th & I St NW) to the hostel at (11th & K St NW) - see below

- $3.60 with paper farecard during rush hour
- $3.05 with paper farecard, non rush hour
Note: If you are travelling between Reagan Airport and the hostel (or anywhere) on July 13-15, please allow at least 30 minutes extra time due to track work on the blue line near the airport. You will have to take a shuttle bus between the airport and the Pentagon City metro station. [1]
- Taxi
- A taxi ride between the airport and the hostel should cost around $20 + ~$2-3 dollars tip.
From Dulles (airport) to the hostel
- Take the Metrobus 5A to Rosslyn / L'Enfant Plaza. ($6 cash or SmarTrip card)
- Then from the Rosslyn Metro, take the orange/blue line metro to McPherson Square.
- You should exit at 14th & I St NW and walk to 11th & K St NW where the hostel is. That's one block north (next to the Franklin Square park, but recommend not cutting across the park) on 14th St, then turn right on K St and walk 3 blocks. Cross 11th St and go left on 11th St. The hostel is there on the right at 1009 11th St NW.

- $2.70 - non rush hour, with cash / paper farecard
- $1.70 - non rush hour, with SmarTrip card (can be purchased at the Rosslyn station, but not advised per note below)

Note: if you are staying at the hostel, we will be giving you a SmarTrip card with some value on it. It is best to pay the cash the first time and get your SmarTrip card at the hostel. The card costs $5 to buy + any value on it, and can be purchased from a SmarTrip dispenser machine at the Rosslyn Metro station, but that's more than the $1 surcharge to use the paper farecard (cash) the first time.
From BWI Airport
- If it's a weekday before ~9pm
- Go to the lower level (baggage) and catch a shuttle bus to the BWI Airport rail station
- Take the MARC train (Penn Line) from the BWI Airport rail station to Union Station in Washington DC ($6). The last MARC train from BWI leaves at 9:32pm on weeknights. During rush hour, trains depart approximately every half hour, and during other times, approximately once an hour. For details, please check the schedule on the MARC website. [2] (Penn Line SB)
- Go upstairs and out towards the parking garage, where you can catch the DC circulator bus (and other bus services) towards Georgetown
- The DC circulator costs $1 and comes every few minutes; It will take you along Massachusetts Avenue, past Mount Vernon Square, it'll turn right on 10th St NW and then left onto K St. (you want to get off at the next stop after the bus turns onto K St).
- The hostel is located on 11th St (east side), near the intersection of 11th & K St NW
- If not a weekday or after ~9pm (or alternative to the above)
- Walk to the bus stop outside the baggage level, at Concourse A/B or the International terminal
- Take the Metrobus B30 (costs $6 cash) from BWI Airport to the Greenbelt metro station (green line)
- Take the Green Line to the Mount Vernon Square / Convention Center station.
- Walk two blocks south on 7th St to K St / Mount Vernon Square
- Turn right and walk a block to 9th St, cross over 9th St to the other side
- Walk south on 9th St (west side) and turn right onto K St (next to the church), and walk 2 blocks to 11th & K St NW.
- Turn right on 11th St NW and the hostel is there on your right.
- The hostel is located on 11th St (east side), near the intersection of 11th & K St NW
- Metro train fares between Greenbelt and Mount Vernon Square station
- $4.40 - non rush hour, with cash / paper farecard
- $5.35 - rush hour, with cash / paper farecard

To the venue
- Bus (Recommended)
The easiest way to get to to the venue (George Washington University Marvin Center / Lisner) is the DC Circulator bus (red bus), which stops at 12th & K by the hostel and drops off at 21st & Pennsylvania Avenue by the venue. The bus costs $1, cash or SmarTrip card.
Note: After 9pm, the circulator bus drop-off / pick-up point nearest the hostel is McPherson Square (14th & I St NW).
- Metro
The hostel is located at 11th & K St NW, which is 4 blocks from the McPherson Square metro station (orange/blue line) and take the orange/blue line 2 stops, in the direction of Vienna, to the Foggy Bottom metro.
Alternative metro stations include:
- Metro Center (orange/blue/red), 4 blocks away
- Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro (red/green/yellow), 4 blocks away
- Walk
It's a 20-minute walk from the hostel to the venue, taking you by the White House.
- Walk west 3 blocks on K St to 14th St.
- Turn left (west side of Franklin Square)
- Walk south (1 block) and it turns into Vermont Avenue (go one more block) and you'll be at H St NW at Lafayette Park.
- Cross H St NW and cut across Lafayette Park to Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Turn right on Pennsylvania Avenue (to the west). Best to walk on the south side of Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Cross 17th St (by the Cosi) and continue on Pennsylvania Avenue. Go one block and you'll be at H St again by the World Bank.
- Walk west along H St, past the World Bank building, go 3 blocks and you'll be at 21st St right where the Marvin Center and Lisner Auditorium are.
FAQ
- When can I check-in?
- You can check-in as early as 2 pm on your arrival day.
- When is check-out time?
- You can check-out as late as 11 am on your departure day.
- Do I need a photo ID?
- Yes, please have your photo ID (e.g. passport) ready upon check-in at the hostel.
- Can I have alcohol in the hostel?
- No, alcohol is not permitted in the hostel. As an alternative, there are plenty of pubs nearby.
- Is there wi-fi?
- Yes, there is free wi-fi on the first and second floor. Wikimedia DC will be supplementing the hostel's wi-fi, to help ensure it's sufficient for our group.
- Is there breakfast at the hostel?
- Yes, there will be a continental breakfast provided at the hostel each morning.
- Are there laundry facilities?
- Yes, the hostel has laundry facilities that you can use.
