Submissions/The Creative Conflict Process fosters more innovative solution making

From Wikimania 2012 • Washington, D.C., USA

This is an open submission for Wikimania 2012.

Academic research is replete with the notion that "Conflict is the Oxygen of Creativity", in reality, conflict is results in little more than caustic and corrosive dead-ends(Flanagan & Runde, 2008. This is a 10 minute presentation about the practical factors academic researchers believe are the essential components to leveraging the same factors that cause conflict into producing more innovative solutions.

Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)

Using conflict as the "oxygen of creativity" stems from the same factors which typically cause conflict; Difference in perspectives, emotions, values, goals, needs, interests, knowledge, and styles are the building blocks of producing more innovative and satisfying solutions (Flanagan & Runde, 2008). However, most organizations continue to operate either at a base level of conflict aviodance or hold to conflict resolution approaches which, according to researchers Bodtker and Jameson,( 2001 p. 260) lack the essential instigating ingredients present during the conflict process which produces innovation and creative solutions. The Wiki community is rich with these essential conflict instigating ingredients, the question becomes, then, how we can we traverse the creative conflict process to produce innovative solutions and ideas instead of staying mired in the negatives outcomes typically associated with conflict.

Will you attend Wikimania if your submission is not accepted?

I would love to attend wikimania under any circumstances. My current situation of being unemployed and residing on the West Coast residence, translates into having the time but not the means, to come and therefore I'd have to qualify for and receive a scholarship. And, upon review of the scholarship criteria (since I've never contributed to this community before) and in consideration of the others who are more qualified and deserving, I recognize that in order to attend this conference, some form of organic heretofore, unknown, confluence of connections will need to emerge.

Slides or further information (optional)

will have slides to convey a brief summation of the selected academic research findings
