Proposing a meetup for people involved in or interested in Wikipedia editions in African languages. Could use the designated gathering place, but need to know who's interested before fixing a time. For those not familiar with the title, it was coined for an email group that was set up after talks about African language Wiki projects at Wikimania 2006.--A12n (talk) 05:00, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- Suggesting Saturday - maybe in the break after the opening plenary?--A12n (talk) 16:48, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, put it on the whiteboards on the 3rd floor! And maybe also on the online schedule? Sj (talk) 20:12, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm back in Virginia (commuting participant) - but have added it to the MeetUp schedule - 10:00 Saturday in the lounge area of the Marvin Center.--A12n (talk) 00:06, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Here's a fallback if folks see this in time: connect in the 11:50-12:10 break time before the WikiCulture and Community XI: Small Languages session (in which David Kariithi presents on The African Story) and decide if we want to meet later today. I haven't met anyone in the group that's here, so not sure who I'm looking for. No big agenda, but since we're here, probably worth at least networking and sharing some news, ideas, etc.--A12n (talk) 14:36, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Topics
- For starters, basic networking
- Status and prospectus of specific projects
- Reference pages:
- Topics related to incubator (ex: Krio WP was started in incubator in 2008 and has hardly developed at all)
- Project by WikiProject Medicine, Wikimedia Canada, and Translators Without Borders to translate medical articles
- Translation task force
- Health care "book" (~80 terms to translate)
- Is it possible to link local radio stations - which often work in one or several African languages used by listeners - to generation of WP content in those languages? Community radio in Africa is a dynamic medium for communication and extension.
