Map please

A map placing the venue and accommodation locations, public transportation lines would be greatly appreciated. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 18:37, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I agree, though a final decision over the venue hasn't yet been made. It was originally going to be at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Centre, though this appears to be under review. CT Cooper 13:14, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accommodation

Just stupid question, but :) is it not here somebody from D.C. which will offer me couch for couple nights during Wikimania 2012? :) I can offer nice company and maybe Czech beer. Regards --Chmee2 (talk) 14:15, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hotel selection

To put it bluntly, it is quite a joke that the hotel selection for a conference that is intended for volunteer participants in a free hobby project has rates ranging from $216 to $170 at the cheapest end. What planet do you guys live on to think that is a reasonable price range for this crowd? Boutique Hotel... ...really?! --Dschwen (talk) 22:04, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For heaven's sake, advertise the room sharing section that I created just this morning. I have already found a roommate in a $105 per night (incl. tax) hotel one block from the conference. --Dschwen (talk) 22:06, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How to get a room in the Hostel?

I just got confirmation of my WMDE scholarship. So how do I make a reservation at the proposed Hostel (HI DC)? (As I will also participate in WTM, I am looking for a room between the 9th and the 16th of July.) Thx for any useful information, I guess other people are wondering as well :-) -- Toblu (talk) 21:08, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We will send you an email tomorrow or in the next few days with information on the hostel. Right now we just have space for scholarship folks (including WMDE), though are working and hoping to add more space and open reservations for everyone. Cheers. Aude (talk) 22:03, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the quick reaction :) -- 88.153.20.138 22:09, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you also send the information how to get one of the beds with a stipend to me.--Saehrimnir (talk) 14:13, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have also got a scholarship form WMDE, and I will be there from 6 July to 16. Are there any rooms left in (HI DC)?--Pouyana (talk) 17:05, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Aude, I am still waiting for the information about the hostel. Would be nice to get some help here :-) -- Toblu (talk) 14:19, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sent you an email with info. Aude (talk) 15:48, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Same thing for me, just got a scholarship with Wikimedia France. Can I have the details? Thank you. Letartean (talk) 16:57, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I thought all scholarship recipients (who confirmed attendance) are already booked into HI-DC...? If not, I too would like to know more about how to register for that please... I'm kinda confused now. And I'm sure others will be too, after looking at this thread ;) Rehman (talk) 17:06, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a Google Form which scholarship recvipients needed to fill in. I did that after I received this information, along with my scholarship confirmation but I did not receive a confirmation whether a bed in the hostel has been reserved or not - there was no reaction at all to the reservation. --Manuel Schneider (talk) 17:10, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, same here. And for that reason I contacted Sage Ross to see if my reservation went through, and according to him, it did. Although odd, seems like the lack of confirmation for that registration is normal. Rehman (talk) 02:05, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Direct booking

The State Plaza has a significantly lower rate if you book online individually through their own website choosing not "best rate" but 14 day prior purchase, $109+tax for a double with 2 beds. WP-DC obviously didn't make a very good bargain with them. I've stayed there, it's an adequate hotel--considering the lower price. DGG (talk) 21:07, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I also got a cheaper rate elsewhere (Lombardy Hotel) - For six nights, 11th-17th the total cost is $828 incl tax. it is right next to GWU, on the Dupont Circle side. Similar to DGG's comment above, you need to manually select the "14 day prior purchase" option. -- Chuq (talk) 06:23, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you can get a cheaper rate directly on State Plaza's website, by all means do that. It does not hurt us. Harej (talk) 00:48, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
